The Animal Parliament

BY ARIANE BERGERON

The Animal Parliament is a manifesto, not a declaration of certainty, but an invitation to relearn how to live together. It questions the boundary between human and animal, reminds us of the invisible links that unite us, and reveals the impact of our actions on shared ecosystems.

Animals are omnipresent on the Basse-Côte-Nord Territory. Hunting and fishing are more than just practices: they are living cultural legacies, deeply rooted in a land of limited resources. It is from this reality that the need arose to explore a specific area, often overlooked, where this relationship is most troubled: that of killing.Le Parlement des Animaux is a manifesto, not a declaration of certainty, but an invitation to relearn how to live together. It questions the boundary between human and animal, reminds us of the invisible links that unite us, and reveals the impact of our actions on shared ecosystems.

This manifesto takes the form of a place. A space for transformation, both symbolic and tangible, where we come to treat the animal after hunting or fishing, not in the coldness of industry, but in a respectful environment, deeply rooted in the territory. Then, a space for consumption, exchange, preparation, observation and, above all, a space to slow down.

By questioning this process, the project seeks to move away from the blind machining of animal consumption. The aim is to re-anchor this relationship in a more concrete, conscious experience. To expose rather than conceal. Questioning rather than perpetuating. The spatial journey invites you to step out of your comfort zone, to feel. It's an architecture that accompanies the transition from a relationship of domination to one of consideration.

Here, animals are no longer mere resources.

They are the territory.

And we humans are just passing through.
